Monochromatic Looks

Image
Monochromatic, meaning containing only one color, is one of the biggest fashion trends of 2019. Monochromatic is a great way to mix things up and give your tired, old clothes a new life. Annika and I were able to pull both our looks together with existing pieces in our closets.

Monochromatic outfits are really quite simple to put together. Plus, wearing a single color from head to toe will not only keep you on trend, but it will automatically make you look taller and slimmer.

If you are wanting to give the monochromatic look a try, then I suggest starting with one item of clothing (I started with my yellow sweater from Jcrew (old)) and then branched out from there. I remembered that I had a bright yellow wool skirt that I purchased from Jcrew a few years ago hanging in my "archive" section of my closet (as my friend LaTara likes to call it)😊 Sure enough the shades of yellow blended perfectly. I opted to pair my white sneakers from Zara with my bright yellow skirt (Which btw happens to be another popular trend that I am obsessing over right now) This allows for a more comfy, casual look.

It was no surprise to me that Annika opted for this bright coral/red color for her monochromatic look. She has always loved the color red and no wonder... she looks absolutely stunning! She is wearing a Jcrew cable-knit sweater (purchased last year) and my (old) Banana Republic pencil skirt. We couldn't believe how perfectly they matched! I love how she chose to pair her black crossbody bag and black boots with her red outfit. Not only does the black accents help the the red color to really Pop, but it keeps her overall look young and fresh.

If you are ready to explore your own closet to see what kinds of monochromatic looks you can come up with, here are a few helpful hints.

1-Don't worry if the colors don't match perfectly. Mixing shades of colors (for example pinks, grays, or even whites) will still have you looking beautiful and will keep your monochromatic look on point.

2- Play around with different textures. Different textures can add depth and interest to your monochromatic outfit. For example, pairing a tweed skirt, with a silk blouse, or leather jacket can take an outfit from boring to WOW!

3-If wearing all one color head-to-toe seems a little overwhelming to you, then don't hesitate to add an accessory as an accent color. (example: scarf, purse, or shoes)

4- Last (but not least) Get creative and have fun!
